Where Fashion Statements become Innovation...

Modern Vintage

Wednesday, November 16, 2016

Welcome back , Innovative Chicksters I know its been a while since Ive blogged, my life has been so off balanced lately. Somehow I found time in between my busy work schedule and homework to finally shoot this look I've been dying to wear. I like to call this modern vintage look  innovation chic edition (giggles).

This look has a  hint of industrial (hence the glasses) mixed with few modern vintage pieces.
The hat, purse and vest are vintage pieces that I picked from a few thrift stores, my shirt came from Old Navy, and skirt from Ross. I found the glasses at a local flea market and I just couldn't resist, I had to buy them for just 10 bucks.

Self Forgiveness

Wednesday, August 3, 2016

Hey loves,
Lately, Ive been alive and thriving. I'm excited to see what the next chapter of my life brings. I just got a new  job. (YAY Me!!!!!!) so I'm trying to balance my life out again. Before I got my job I can honestly say I was depressed and I kept trying to find ways to keep myself in good spirits. It was like I kept dropping the ball no matter how often I kept picking it up. I was so  disappointed with myself. I was disappointed because I didn't have a certain job, I was angry because I let certain relationships go on that didn't deserve my time or energy. I was upset that certain friendships weren't as strong as they use to be.
But at some point I had to say hold on. I did all that I could do. Some things weren't meant to last a lifetime. I was watching Shelah Marie's Periscope one night and her topic was about "forgiving yourself." When she said that I was thinking, "what in the world is she talking about?" But as she explained it I began to understand what she meant by self forgiveness.

" Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves because we have a certain image of ourselves and sometimes we get angry for things that we let happen in the past.  When we don't live up to that image we beat ourselves up mentally. When we hate the way some things played out we beat ourselves up mentally. But, you have to forgive yourself by saying "I forgive you for........." and that is when we start our own healing process."

It was a little weird at first but it worked. I felt a little better and then I started purchasing self help books to understand my purpose in life. One of my friends recommended reading The Alchemist,  which is a story about a boy who went on a long journey to find his destiny. Surely that gave me a since of relief and inspiration. I may not be exactly where I want to be in life but life is a journey and I'm haven't reached my destiny yet...

So my advice to you is to be kind to yourself, love yourself, and forgive yourself.

Affordable Metallic Eyeshadows

Thursday, July 14, 2016

Hey innovative chicksters, guess whats finally in? Metallics!!!!  What better way to rock the new metallic trend then to put on a popping eyeshadow. I was randomly browsing through a local Dollar Tree when I ran across these Milani Gel Powder Eyeshadows. I just couldn't resist such a great deal.

I had previously purchased one of these eyeshadows from Walmart and I loved the pigment. Although, I liked the product I just couldn't see myself paying $3.77 (online price. In store price was $4.88) a piece for every single eyeshadow I placed my eye on. This eyeshadow is light weight, well pigmented and stayed in place the whole night when I went out. It looks great on dark skin, glides on with ease and feels as though nothing is there.

Even though this product isn't water proof or a top of the line eyeshadow brand for a dollar you can't beat it!

A Little Off The Top

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

Hello My Beautiful People....

Lately  I've been drawn to the off the shoulder shirt trend and I was wondering, how I could achieve this look but at a more affordable price? I went to my local Goodwill and picked out two shirts that I thought would look great as shoulder shirts.  I then cut "A Little Off The Top," sewed the loose ends and inserted the elastic into the top.

Wallah off the shoulder shirt!

Dashiki Poppin'

Sunday, April 3, 2016

Dashiki is derived from the Hausa word yar̃ ciki which means shirt.

A dashiki is a loose-fitting, pullover shirt that is usually sewn and colorful with different prints and patterns. It first appeared on the American scene during the 1960’s to embrace black unity. This trend soon died during the late 1960’s due to white counterparts “hippies” that set the tone for a fashion trend, it became more about fashion and less about unity. The dashiki is more about “My Black Is Beautiful” but we have to be carful about how we display it. “My Black Is Beautiful” can be dangerous if it amounts to wrapping oneself up in one’s own glory and magnificence.

I decided to do more research on my dashiki before I wore it because I did not just want be another person wearing a dashiki for a fashion statement. I wanted to know what the colors meant and where the word dashiki derived from, but I really wore my dashiki to make the actual statement that “My Black Is Beautiful.”

I'm trying this new thing called "eating healthy"

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Lately, I have been in a better mood with less stomachaches and a little more energy. I made the decision around December of 2015 to cut beef and pork out of my normal diet. (which was normally a big deal breaker for me). I've noticed that since I've gotten older the things that I once consumed without a second guess are the same things that gave me stomach aches and made me extremely tired.  My tummy is even more sensitive to milk and ice cream which I have cut back on as well.

I have also noticed a big difference in my waist measurements, which I'm starting to love. I also started working out today on a 2 mile trail and I can't wait to see what I will look like by the end of April. I just have to remember body positive imaging and to stay focused.
