Wisdom Woman Wednesday!!!! Karen Civil

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Karen Civil is a woman from Elizabeth, NJ. I ran across Karen while I was watching HOT.97 interviews and I just wanted to see what she was talking about and why she was on the radio show. As I began watching her interview I closely listened to what she had to say and the more she intrigued me. I did a little more research to find out what she really does and to sum it up she's a celebrity manager. She's worked with big names from The Game, Nicki Minaj, to Lil Wayne and so on and so forth.

Karen is from Haiti and at a young age she discovered how different she was from other people. She stated "when I went to school I didn't fit in with the black kids because I was Haitian and I didn't fit in with the Haitian kids because I was not in ESL classes". So she had to find out where she fit in and lets just say she kind of created her own category (innovative). Which is what really intrigued me about Karen.  When Karen was in eighth grade she created a fan cite for the Backstreet Boys which she won third place and she got to meet them. After a few more websites that she created gave her a platform she realized that you can monetize off of this platform if you understand how to engage your audience.

As I was scrolling down the timeline of her Instagram I noticed she had pictures with very known and attractive artist and I wondered how she dealt with them if they were coming on to her. This question popped up in my head immediately because I know I have those same problems in my work place as well. Her answer to my question was impeccable. Even though she is a woman in the Black Hip Hop World she demanded respect. She states " It's about teaching people, especially in this industry, how to treat you and how to talk to you. I learned to set the tone for how my partnerships will work." This statement is what really made her my Wisdom Woman Wednesday.

The fact that she is a black woman in a male dominated world she still makes it known that she needs to  be respected and this is a business woman.
